Car exterior finish

On my 2000 528 certified series I noticed some surface (very very light and minor) rust spots after washing the car today. Does anyone know if this is covered and if so what I should expect from the dealer? Repaint of car or just affected areas? While its currently minor, I have got to believe that this may be a sign of really bad things to come.

I think rust warranty is only from the inside out...
so if the rust spots are on the surface of the exterior, that might not be covered under warranty.
But, I'm not very sure about this, no harm checking with your dealer.

I believe that BMWs carry a 6 year/unlimited mile rust warranty.

So I go over to my dealer today because I noticed some small (very very small) rust spots in various spots on my car. These are spots that are no bigger than a pen tip. I was told that this surface rust is normal and the service manager was able to rub it off. I can't believe this is normal. Any thoughts?
