car sounds like a deisel at idle?

My car is very loud at idle. it seems like most of the noise is comeing from the camshaft turning over butt im not sure. the car sounds like a deisel engine when its idling. are ale the m20 motors like this or is it a common problem?

You can have the valves adjusted. That is one of the most common causes.

The other is the injectors, but thsoe are soo expensive to replace that if cleaning doesnt make then quieter then I would just live with it.

There is also the fact that every Getrag tranny rattles after so many miles.

I agree. It's probably the valves in need of adjustment. They should be adjusted every 15K miles per factory recommendations. The adjustment eccentrics may be worn too far. Injectors can be noisy but not usually that noisy. Injesctors go for about $75 each w/seal.
