cd changer add on by tech(not at dealer)

Independent shop owner installs factory changer in glove compartment of wifes new 7/04 530i.Along with proper bracket ordering from dealer(MY BMW Seaside CA.)The idrive system will not recognize the addition on the screen.Dealership says a complete reprogram of software is necessary?Is this BS? HELP!

At least on my Jag, when I added a CD changer the computer had to be programmed to recognize it, so it's a good possibiity that they will have to do a little computer work. The cd changer I added was a factory cd changer so..........

Not BS at all, in fact most dealers will outsource their audio installs to smallers shops. My Service Advisor even told me which shop they used.

should have had a dealer do it,you will probably pay more for the programing then the changer and that combined, everything you add to that car has to be programed to all the other modules
