Cold Air Induction - Does it work?

Well the performance gains are neglible at best.......maaaaayyybeee 3-4hp more and a much louder engine note. BMW's are tuned so well these days that it isnt a huge difference maker. It is pretty much a standard thing for most people(including my self) but not a "necessary" one....

not really, what i did was open up my air box and if you take out the filter you will notice these baffald(sp) made out of plastic i just ripped these out and i noticed a little difference, they are used to quite the intake noise.

jordan I noticed a very small difference too - I removed the "cold air trumpet" because it just sounds so much better with it out. My car is too quiet with it in! I can't hear the motor at all.

But the general rule for an NA motor is for every 10 degrees cooler the air, you gain roughly 1 horsepower. You figure if you're sucking in 160 degree air with an unshielded cold air intake and then install a shield to suck in 80 degree air, thats a LITTLE bit of power...
