[bash] Got a sad story.......I, as most of y'all know just received my 2004 530i. I (as I am quite sure the rest of you) do pamper and baby the $hit out of my car. Well yesterday as I was leaving my job I was inspecting the body for any Mysterious Parking Lot Bandit marks. Sure as $hit some A$$HOLE slammed his door into my rear door hard enough to crease the metal from the window almost to the bottom of the door. Now I am a reasonable person and could understand an accidental ding with out knowing it, but this idiot put a crease in my door 13 inches long and almost 2 inches wide and did not have the intestinal fortitude to come forth and say, "Hey I just hit someones door with mine." It is going to be VERY interesting how much this is going to cost MY insurance.

I feel for you man, that sucks. I'm definately careful where I park my car, but in a crowded lot, what can you do.

Could of been a kid or some old lady, and completely accidental on their part, so you never know.

I wouldn't bother going through insurance though as that will probably cost you more in the long run. Your probably better off taking the hit and fixing it yourself.

But hmmm.... a 13 inch ding on a new car. Bummer bro.

Just got back from the Dealership......Guess how much?????
C'mon guess......Give up?
3000-6000 euro....yes you read correctly THREE TO SIX THOUSAND EURO. To fix a dent. I have a friend who hit a fire hydrant in a cavalier and just tore his whole passager side off 4000 dollars and the whole side was MISSING. BMW's are nice but......3000-6000 euro to pull a dent and do some painting. Maybe I should just sell it.....if I have to pay that much everytime I get a dent.....BOY I will be broke in no time flat.
Man am I just SO BUMMED OUT

Sorry to hear about the dent. That does suck! In this day and age people just don't give a darn anymore! I discovered how expensive these cars are to repair a couple of years ago. A woman in a Ford Escort backed into me at low speed and put a small dent in the left front fender above the wheel. The size of the dent looked about what a basketball would leave if thrown into some wet cement. It cost $4800 to repair! I was shocked! To make matters worse, she claimed I rear ended her! Insurance paid for the repair but now I am paranoid about where I park. I guess we have to be extra carefull with our babys!

That sucks, sorry to hear. That's how I received my door ding(s) as well. Went with a paintless repair route and now it looks brand new.

Paintless repair route? Please elaborate. I have the silver grey metallic and dings stick out like a sore thumb.

[:(!] I feel for you. That was a very rude person to damage your bimmer. I am also paranoid in parking lots. About how much is that in American dollars?

Unfortunately a paintless repair won't work on such a big dent. I had a couple of small dings (about 1cm) in my back door next to the handle without loss of paint. I called a company called Dent Pro. They came to my office parking lot and repaired in on the spot. He approached the dent by running his tools along the window. It just needed a little buffing when he was done and it looked perfect. He charged $100.00 for both dents.

Wow that price you were quoted does seem excessive. For the price, will they be fixing the dent or replacing the door itself?

For that price, I'd look into one of the alternatives above, becomes friends with your local body shop or just hope I have a low deductible.

Not a problem, glad you enjoy it.

Like DRWWE stated, it won't remove large dents, creases, or chipped paint, but I assume since it's a door ding it's fairly small.

I went to Dent Pro and their prices were expensive compared to a mobile service. Try looking in the phone book for mobile paintless dent repair, since they have lower overhead, they can pass the savings on to you.

talking about being paranoid in parking lots, this doesn't sound like an accidental door impact, sound more like an intentional act. No body I knows opens a door with that much force to put 13 x 2 inch ding on a car.

What about AHNOLD? [unsure]

In any case this puts a big question on were I should park my BMW if I got one [scratch]. I think the farthest from the store the better, usually empty farther away.

Good LUck [cheers]

I agree, must have been intentional, or perhaps someone tapped it with a car bumper. I hope the metal is not so cheap that a door could do that damage.

The paintless dent repair might still be the answer. Look for any major paint damage. If not check three or four places for quality. Afterwards get a detail and that should handle it.

C'mon, a injury like that could not have gone unoticed. It probably was an accident, but Im sure the person saw it, got a good chuckle and drove off without any regrets. Whatever happened to leaving a note on the poor man's window. Sorry to hear that too. Im pulling for ya.

Thanx...I appreciate all the support. Who ever did it knew for sure they did it. It was made from a driver side door. I know that it was very windy that day and the wind may have snatched his/her door and slammed it into my door....but, they knew they did....obviously saw the damage and opted not to tell anybody. That is my issue.
3-6 thousand euro at this exchange rate now is 3720.00 - 7440.00 dollars. WOW that is a chunk of change for a dent. There is a little paint missing and a little paint transfer. I think i found the car that was responsible, but with no witnesses I can't prove anything. Don't forget that i am in Germany on a military installation and all we have for police are the MP's. Think these guys are sophisticated enough to actually do paint transfer comparrisons? NOT A CHANCE!!!! S o I am just screwed. I have another estimate appointment on Saturday....I think that because I am an American that they people think I am an Idiot and will just believe what they say. I think someone is trying to make some pocket money at my expense.....Guess they don't know that I have lived here for 10 years. I had a nice dent on the back of my Benz and it only cost 250.00 euro to fix. We shall see.

Insult to Injury

I thought that the door ding was ALL SO tragic....well guess what sports fans....I got rear ended on the Autobahn and yep you guessed it.............I cried like a biatch. 14000- euro worth of damage. Could have been ALOT worse though. I had my wife and two kids with me and Thank God no one was hurt.
My wife sustained some whiplash but that was it. Luckily we were in a Stau (traffic jam) and were not hit very hard. The lady that hit me, her Golf was JACKED UP. Alot worse than my car. Any way....I hope everyone had a great Easter. [:0]

Held up great, I can't post picks due to the fact that i haven't figured out how to compress them to a size format that is acceptable fo the board. I did however find these pics of another new 5 series. I was very impressed to read that the drive and occupants suffered only minor injuries
