I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if this post has been discussed in the past.

I have a 1985 325e that has had problems with the speedo not working. This summer I had young electrical engineer help me fix that problem. This week a new problem with the speedo and the computer display has occurred. As I drove to work (42 mile trip) I noticed that my computer display went dark and the speedo started to slowly drop from my current speed to not working at all. It took about two minutes to go from a speed of 60 mph to 0 mph. This 'event' occurred about 30 minutes into my commute.

When I began my trip home, everything appeared to work fine until about 40 minutes into the commute. Again, the computer display went dark and the speedo went from 70 mph to 0 mph over a period of 1-2 mins.

As a side note I replaced the two small lights in the display earlier this summer.

I'd appreciate any insight or help as to how I might solve this problem.

Many thanks!

Yeah, replace the batteries and report back if it fixed the problem.
Could also be a faulty speedo sensor which is on the front plate of the diff, pull out the plug clean it and put it back in.
Welcome and peace.

Slightly off topic. Does anyone know how to calibrate the e30 13-button OBC?? Mine reads 10km/h slow (ie when you hit set/reset on the average speed it will display a speed 10km/h too slow). I have checked my speedo against other bimmers (an e30 325i, an e36 328i, an e46 330i) and a Nissan van, a 2001 toyota corolla, a mitsubishi galant, and with a GPS unit, and it is pretty good, but the OBC is slow.

Any ideas?
