Hey guys, good to be back on board...bad to be back with more problems but i guess that's part of the "fun" of these cars. I'm getting kind of sick of all the surprises but i guess there are only so many more i can run into. Anyway, i don't think i've posted since i sold my first 325 cuz i got a truck right after that and then i just didn't have any problems with my 318, but now i'm back to a 325i and i went convertible. I'll post some pix, she just got out of the body/paint shop; but first i need this problem solved.

There's a line in the bmw manual that says "do not open the soft top while trunk lid is open" or something to that effect, anyway. Long story short, I did it anyway (not on purpose, i just forgot it was open). so i think what happened next was that the motor sheared off of the hinge mount. so i figure, hey, i'll just screw in back on after i engage the gears and it'll be all good. Well of course i was wrong. the motor did nothing. no sound, no movement whatsoever. I ran a current meter to see if the plug to the motor was working and sure enough, there was no juice coming through.

What I'm trying to find out is: is there an emergency shut off breaker, or a fuse, or a relay, or anything that would cause the system to not send power to the motor? i can get the motor back on and working if i just figure out why it's not getting any power. Please help!

thanks in advance and good to be back.

Dan's right, the first thing to check is the fuse. Jamming the motor (ANY motor) will cause an overcurrent condition and blow a fuse or breaker.
