Well after going a good speed on the freeway for about 5 min my cooland light came on. I thought no prob i need more. The thing is, is that there is enough coolant, does the sensor pick up anything other that level. thanks

Nope, the level in the reservoir is all that it picks up. These sensors fail regularly, the foam float becomes saturated with the coolant and no longer operates correctly.

To test, unscrew the sensor and lit the float part up as high on the sensor as possible. Lay it somewhere it won't fall off, then start the engine. If the light is off, time to replace the sensor.
