Crank case ventilation 00' 528i

Hello all, this is my first post.

I recently got sticker shock when I brought my 528i in for warranty work - which I had anticipated would be covered under the cert. series warranty (how foolish of me).

Anyway, the mechanic tells me that the reason my check engine light is occasionally illuminating is because of a semi clogged Crank case ventilation/oil seperator. I am told it should be replaced soon or else!

The bottom line: parts ($239) and labor ($346) total $585 + taxes. This seems rather high to me can anyone else confirm my thoughts?

If I wanted to buy the valve somewhere (Preferably in Canada) can someone suggest a reputable site?

Is it a difficult job to replace this valve? Based on the estimate the tech thinks it's 3.5 hours.

I remember my 1982 Firebird where it literally took 5 mins. to replace the PCV.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

TG

This is a car that is CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED and you're paying $600 for service??? Something sounds wrong here, isn't it 6yrs or 100k miles free warranty repair? I would raise hell at the dealer. It doesn't make sense that it's still under warranty and you need to fix something yourself, wouldn't 3rd party service void the cpo warranty, unless theres something you're not telling us... How long ago did you buy this car?

The car was purchased just under a year ago. It is still under the 6/120k. I called BMWCanada and they also verified that this part is not covered.

Well then your best bet is try one of those shops bahnstormer listed... I am surprised BMW has a deceptive warranty. I thought it was 6yrs or 100k miles NO REPAIR bills, that's how CPO should be.

Apparently CPO warranty has a list that is long and disguished of numerous parts that are not covered under warranty. It is rather dissapointing and than throw the $50 handling fee on top of that and it's just salt on the wound.

Handling fee??? They don't charge handling fees... I never heard of a handling fee charge, I think you bought a car from the wrong dealership. I would verify this with BMWNA.

Actually the CPO clearly states a $50 handling fee. Although, it is common for your home dealership to waive this fee.
