A green horn looking for some advice in the pursuit of buy an older BMW. I have a line a 1997 528i that isfrom some one I know. They are the type who cleans the wax from groves with a Q-tip.

But onto the particulars: 5-spd, beautiful in/out,1-owner, non-smoker, no accidents,garaged day/nite, meticulously maintained by dealer, sport/premium pckgs, 4 summer/ 4 winter tires/wheels, 6 CD changer, rear spoiler, 86,000 miles $13000

Took for a test drive, seems very nice.

Pros:
I know from a prior job the person who owned it, very honest.
A one owner car.
Has all the service records.
8 sets of wheels and tires. 4 17 inch fat tires, 4 snows on 15 inch BMW rims.
Very clean.

Con:
1997 model
86,000 miles, well not too bad
Wont budge below $13,000 for now

Comments?

Trying to weigh worth vs. I know the owner vs another 528 I may find that I dont know the complete history. Just seems like $13K is a bit high for a 97.

NADA book in my area is 9700 - 12000. He is a tad high but than again if this is an above average car it may be worth it as book values are averages! Why is being a "97 Model" a con?

yea 97 isn't a con, guess I put it there since I would rate a equal 98 at the 13K price range vs. a 97.

RE cons: with the 97. 97 was the first year for the E39 (right?), when they state 97, it was built and delivered in Oct. 96!

No side air bags.
