Some how we got some deep scratches in our rear bumper. We didn't do it and we weren't there so we don't know how it happened. How ever since the car is new and an M5 we want it to look its best. Insurance may not be an option since we have a high deductible.
I have estimates ranging from:
325- 910
The lowest is one of those come to your home deals and the highest is w/ a BMW specialty shop.
My question is:
Is the lowest estimate going to be anywhere near as good as the high end and is it possible the high end one is over priced.
I want the best for my car.
Help

How it happened is moot, and it is possible that the "high end" one is overpriced, but is is also possible that the "lowest" one is not going to look good! You need to check with local BMW nutz, like BMW CCA members and ask them for referrals. Try the Los Angeles Chapter http://www.bmwclubla.org/ or the San Diego Chapter http://www.sdbmwcca.com/ Good luck and welcome to the BMWBoard.com!

I would not go with a "come to your home" service for an M5. The environment is just too uncontrollable for guaranteed good results.

Other than that, as Dan said, a few good first hand references is worth alot. Painting it is easy, compared to doing the prep and finish work. That will determine the quality.

just my 2 cents, but how deep are the scratches - only clear coat or deeper?
Also, as an 07 M5 owner, I do not beleive $$$ is so much an issue, thus I think I would go to BMW, provided, like B.D mentioned, you have a trusted dealer...

"Scratches are deep and rough"... I do beleive it sounds like more than the clear coat is damaged.
The "come to home solution" will be a waste of money and compound will most likely not be the solution either - I did it on a scratch just on the clear coat -(my son passed too close to my car with a trash can... needless to say I fussed!)
I brougth it to my detailer guy - buffed and componded - it is not perfect - depending on the ligth and angle, you still can see the scratch.
It definitely sounds like body shop work to me...
