I drive a 1987 325is

I realize that this is a total noob question but, I can't seem to find the diagnostic connector in order to reset my service indicator lights. I know it's under the hood and that it should have 15 pins,(reference ). I found a couple connectors similar to those described, one next to the electrical components box on the drivers side, which connects to pretty much all of the wires that are under the hood, (obvious place to start, right?) but it only has 12 pins. This should be the right connector, I think, but I didn't want to start shorting pins out until I was sure.
If anyone could tell me where, under the hood, I can find the connector described in the link above I would greatly appreciate it.

At the front of the head on the LHS is a round black plastic cap which is about 1 and a half inches in diameter and looks like something you would undo to put oil or something in. Unscrew it, the pins are inside.
