Differences between Euro and American spec M3

First post...

In December I am moving to Germany and have been eyeing M3s for quite a while. I figured what better time than now to get one seeing as how I'll be able to drive one in its "natural habitat". The question is, what differences are there between American spec and Euro spec M3 coupes -- since I've got the option of going with either one it'd be great to buy the one that is the better car.

If I get the European spec car, will there be any trouble importing it back to the states 3 years later when my assignment to Germany is complete?

Suprisingly, I couldn't find this question asked on this bbs and the only other place I found info on this topic was on the previous gen M3 cars.

If you are talking about E46 M3 than there is no difference. Both of them have the same engine rated at 343hp.

European E36 M3 has 321 hp and individual throttle bodies. The US E36 M3 has 240hp.

BMW made several different versions of the E36 M3. 240hp(US) 286hp (Euro) 321hp (Euro). Bimmerlife is right about the E46 M3 being to same in hp.
