Hey all,
I am getting my 2005 M3 this saturday, and being a car nut that I am, I was wondering if there were some Do It Yourself mods that would help out the performance of the car. I current own a 2001 530i, but I have a highly modified 1995 Toyota MR2 turbo (for sale - i know shameless plug [:(] ) that for this car there were some beginning cheap mods you could do to it to help increase performance or individuality. Anything ideas or info would be welcomed!!

First things I would do is make sure every sticker and whatever inside the car, on the windows, etc... anything thats normally in view, was removed. Makes it look a little cleaner. There aren't many, if ANY mods you can do yourself to make the car faster that wouldn't involve buying a new ECU chip.

It really depends on how mechanically inclined you are, the tools you have available to you, and how far you are willing to go.

IMO, you should definitely be able to install an aftermarket cold air intake by yourself. You could also get a new ECU chip. Usually, you just pull out the ECU board and mail it to the company and they send you the reflashed ECU (or a brand new one) and you just "plug" it back into your car.

I am very mechanically inclined - note 1995 Toyota MR2 turbo (highly modified) :)
I am figuring what freebies are out there. Like in the MR2, there were some freebies like if you disconnected the intercooler fan sensor, it would make the fan run all the time. This is good since the fan sensor didnt kick the fan on until the intercooler was too hot, so the fan being on constant was better to keep it cool. Probably didnt add alot of hp, but I am sure it keeps the engine running better. Another was a fog light mod, that would allow the fog lights to run independant from the main lights. Another was advancing the timing on the cams like 2 degrees, which made it ALOT more responsive. Just little things like that. I know I am not going to disconnect or flip something and instantly get gobs of hp, but I was just wondering about little DIY tips and tricks.
