My husband is considering a 545. Do you love it or do you hate it? Have you had any reliability problems? Any comments on mechanical or electrical problems? Any comments are appreciated!

545i is the only current 5 series i'd even consider. with the manual tranny it should be
a blast. however, i'd wait 1 year so any first year quircks/problems can be resolved

I have 800 miles on my 545i 6 speed. This is my 7th BMW in the last 18 years (my last being a 540i 6 speed). I seriously considered the A8, E500 and CLK500 because I was not initially sold on the new design. The car looks get in person and gets better looking everyday. It is also the best driving sedan I have ever been in and is great to drive. The Idrive does take time to master.

The designs bug me a bit, I dont like how they look so big... bmw's always had a slim profile. I think it'll change in another few years. The design does grow on you in person, I saw a dark blue 545i at the local dealer with MASSIVE wheels.

I think the E39 540i/M5 was the best designed bmw ever... but that's just me.

I have both a E39 and E60 6 speeds in black. I used to think the E39 was as good as it gets. When you see both cars side-by-side everyday, the E39 looks extremely dated. The E60 is truely a handsome car in person especially with the 545i 6speed. The handling is in my opinion better than the M5 and much more forgiving in day-to-day driving.

That is a good point. I think it's hard for us non-E60 owners to actually appreciate the looks. I dont like the direction bmw is going, but unfortunately (for now anyways) it'll have to grow on all of us.

I'm afraid bmw is going to end up being beaten by companies like Acura and Infiniti.

??? its too bad we aren't all rich enough to be able to afford brand new $60k cars... my e34 may be "dated" but i think its a beautiful car, BMWs are timeless.

Woah calm your jealiousy... he just said (it was actually an opinion he stated) that the E39's are outdated... fine.

Come on fellas, Pargolf was just making an observation. BMW's age well, but all cars soon become dated. If anyone on this site is a dedicated BMW enthusiast, it would be Pargolf. The man has had several BMWs for 18yrs! So going back to the original thread, I say go for it and buy the 545. I agree with Bahnstormer.........wait a yr and let them get the kinks out. I'm looking forward to getting the new 530 E60. Take care fellas.

I completely satisfied with my 545i and continue to be pleased by it on a daily basis. As it has been said, the car looks much better in person and is a dream to drive. I considered getting an e500, but now couldn't really see myself driving anything else.

I test drove the 545i 6speed yesterday at the "Ultimate Drive" for Susan Komen foundation.
Had the chance to test drive "alone" (without a salesperson!) for 25 minutes,
It is one helluva car! I was highly impressed and fully pumped!
GO FOR IT!!![thumb]
