does outside temp sensor control a/c?

I'm having trouble with my outside temp sensor (see similar post by me). when I get the correct readout, the a/c works- blows cool. when the temp display goes out to lunch and reads, oh, say +15F when its 90F outside, the a/c blows out hot air. from that observation, it seems to me the two are related.

any experience/knowledge? thanks.

as info...replaced the sensor with a new one, $36 from the dealer. display is correct, and now the a/c blows cold.
