I just got my hinge "repair kit" which is really just the bolt, screw and washers that go in the eyelets of the hinge. I haven't taken the old screw and bolt out yet, but this set I just got looks way too big, and the bentley doesn't go into much detail about replacement. Anybody have some advice? [confused]

I replaced one on my 91 318is. It was fairly easy. As I recall the pin appears to be much larger but is narrow at the shank. I will search around as I use to have a link to an article about this repair.....give me a few minutes.....

So, I just finished the project, and damn, that seemed complicated. I actually had to unbolt one of the hinge plates, since the pin bolt had actually snapped inside the assembly. Lot of tapping and lots of PB blaster. I think I did the job correctly, but only time will tell. Seemed weverything was really snug. Was this the article you were referring to Big Daddy?
