Door hinge broken

This morning started out pretty lame, I opened my drivers side door and heard a nasty poppin sound like metal bending metal. Closer inspect revealed the door guide bracket ( I'm not sure what its called but it has steps on it for holding the door open at different angles) which goes into the a plastic boot then towards the fire wall is broken. Or what ever attaches it to the car is broken I'm not sure.

Opening the door cause a nasty bending noise as you open or close, I didn't have alot of time to inspect it but it looks like a bracket weld may have come un-done.

Any ideas on what it will cost to get this fixed and is this a dealer only repair? I don't want to take my car to the local welding shop.

Thanks

Post up a photo. Hard to diagnose exactly.

On the car side of the regulator (that's what its called) it is held to the car with a pin - if the pin is broken it's an easy fix. In the door it is held by bolts - take the door card off and have a look - maybe the bolts came loose until they finally popped out. The noise will be because the regulator is not being guided how it should and so is hitting (and possibly damaging) things.

Find out what the problem is and go from there.

Pick up a second hand regulator from the wreckers for $5.

Thanks 3zero, I looked at it alittle closer after work, the door as you know has two hidges which are fine, then theres the guide "regulator" which after pulling the black boot away from the body of the car, I noticed a large glob of solder which is broken. So essentially the regulator arm is hitting the metal in the body as you close the door verses being guided or held in place. Sorry I dont have my digital camera working on this computer yet, but hopefully that describes it better. Any luck with your rims?

So it is the car side of things that is broken? May have to be welded then. And then you'll have to see why it broke in the first place - just normal wear and tear? Or is it stiff and hard to move in and out? Maybe need to WD-40 and grease up the guides and spring in the door.

Rims were going to cost a packet to fix. New ones arrive on thursday which will then need to be tested to see if they fit and maybe modified. (I suspect they will rub the guards as they are 10-15mm less offset than the current rims.

lubrication of the door hinges and guides should be part of routine servicing. I know I lube em when i service cars!

Graham, those rims Momos? Or are they BBS?
