im having a problem unlocking my 320i. when i bought the car it came with a alarm system. the alarms sucks. ive had so many problems with it i dont know where to start. it will go off and not shut off at times but thats not my problem. the thing is when i hit the unlock button the doors unlock, but the driver side lock unlocks and then the lock goes back down a hair and the driver side door wont open. it just recently started doing this but im afriad that ill have to pull off my door pannel. if anyone's run into this problem let me know. i know the E30 had door locks so im hoping that this has happend to someone or that someone would know how to fix it. thanx

well since i wrote this thread my door lock has completely seized. i cant open my door at all. weather it be from the inside or out. its not the alarm i think its the lock it self. i have to climb in through my passenger side door now and im already tired of it. so im guessing i have to pull the pannel but i cant get my door open so im not too sure how i can. this is so much fun.

Same damn Problem

I don't think my alarm system works on my 325e but the door locks on my car have also seized and I can't get it open with the key. This is all really strange to me, why do I have to break into my own car? I feel like breaking the driver side window to get in and out but then I would have to replace the window and the cost isn't worth it.

Not to mention that the gas door is locked also... this is neat feature but um, how do I unlock it? and how do I reactivate it when I don't want people stealing my gas?

Please do and oh, I visited a couple other forums and found some information. I think that after I hire some one to break into the car and replace the driver side door then I'm going to have the same person install a keyless entry system.

I would be able to open all the doors and wouldn't have this problem if the driver side door lock worked correctly.

so ive pulled my door pannel and ive seen what the problem is. the alarm acuater is toast, but the door lock it self now needs to be fixed/replaced. its all because of this one piece of metal. i still cant open my door weather it be from inside or out but i did fix my molding on the passenger side and figured out why my turn signals and hazards arnt working. thats lots of help but not exactly what i aimed to fix. i have a few pix of whats causing the problem so when i get a chance ill post them. i just cant do it at the moment.

Well, I pretty much fixed the door except I may post or look around to see if anyone has had my other problem. I'm going to get the lock replaced and maybe fix the inside handle so I get get out faster. These repair will cost a hefty penny around a hundred or so depending on who does it. It wouldn't be so bad if everyone around town worked on BMWs but only a few people do so I don't have many choices on who I can go with.

I just hope I don't need to replace the alternator because that would just suck!

I had a similar problem except it wasn't the alarm because I still don't have one. My problem was that when I open the driver side door, only that door unlocks and thats all, when I'd unlock the passenger door, all of them would unlock and the same goes for locking the doors. With mine, the problem turned out to be a bad connection under the carpet where the driver's seat is. My carpet got lots of water because of a sun roof leak and it rusted out the contacts there. I would never be able to figure it out except when I removed the carpet because it was so wet a nd accidentally noticed the rust. Oh and to open the gas tank door, the e36s have this knob on the passenger side of the trunk that has a picture of a gas pump on it and when you pull that, the door lock opens, I don't know any way to lock it though, other from the regular, "lock all doors and it locks too" way.

The gas door lock should both lock and unlock with the door locks. If you are having to use the emergency release in the trunk in order to unlock the gas door, then there is either something wrong with the gas door actuator, the circuit to the actuator, or the central locking control unit.

Well, not all the time Justin. With what I had happen to me, the connection went bad, if it was to go bad when the doors were locked, the door would be locked and I'd have to use the emergency release, only once of course because if the connection is bad it wouldn't lock the door anyway.

Right. However, it should normally lock and unlock with the doors. If it doesn't, there is something wrong.

I must have misread your previous post. [cheers]
