Drivers Side Seat is stuck...

Hello all - I have a 1991 325i Convertible. My drivers side seat is stuck and I was hoping someone might explain to me an easy solution. The backrest won't swing forward to allow entry into the back seat.

If you lift up on the seatback release, does the handle move freely without any resistance? If so, then I bet the small little wire cable attached to the seatback release handle that disengages the seatback lock snapped.

If you can get the cover off of the back of the seat (a couple of screws on the bottom of the seatback hold it on), you can look in there and see where the cable should run and if the cable has snapped.

And if not, it is likely to be in the mechanism where the seat hinges. Take the plastic cover off, and if there is nothing obvious get some CRC (WD40) and give it a good spray to free everything up and try get it all moving again. I have had to do this on my fathers e30 cabrio.
