Hi guys. First post here so I guess you'd call me NFG?

My wife and I just bought an 06 550i and have a couple questions.

1. What is available in the way of a true dual exhaust system for the 550? Anyone done it?

2. Will a system bolt right up the car or will there need to be some reconstruction (other than the rear bumper cover) of the underside of the car? I am working on whether or not the M5 cover will fit without too much fabrication with respect the braces and mounting points.

Any thoughts?

I have no idea, never seen it done.

You might want to head over to e60fanatics.com, I'm sure someone over there might know a thing or two about 5 series exhausts!

still in r&d

my guess is that a dual exhaust is in the works from several tuning sources, however, nothing seems to be on the market yet. the e60 chasis is brand new, so dont cross your fingers, it will probably be a few more months. i suggest you check regularly with hamann-motorsport.de and dinan-cars.com, these are two companies that will be first in the aftermarket exhaust business.

I talked to the guys at Eisenmann (who weren't very friendly....) and got some info. What I do not like about the Eisenmann system is the fake little plate on the right side. If you look at the picture closely you'll see that what looks like a muffler is actually just a flat piece of metal made to look like a muffler. Looks really hokey to me....

Wonder if an M5 system will fit?

Are you saying that is non-functional? I noticed that it did look different when I posted the picture, but I thought it was just the photo angle that was deceiving.

That's MEGA BOGUS POSEUR!!!! [thumbd]

Take a look at the gallery pics of this system on the Eisenmann site. It doesn't appear to be non functional, but it definitely doesn't have a muffler on the passenger side. The passenger side pipe comes off of the main pipe ahead of the muffler. It appears to be very similar in design to the old Borla systems that were available for 4th gen Camaros and Firebirds that used a restrictor plate in the passenger side non-dominant pipe.

I don't understand why they didn't design a true dual system - from the pictures of the underbody on the Eisenmann site, there clearly is clearance to route a full pipe and muffler to the passenger side.

I also think that faux plate on the passenger side looks chincy. And, considering how much this exhaust system probably costs, that's just not acceptable.

I have no idea if an M5 exhaust will fit, but Eisenmann's M5 exhaust system looks really slick. But, I'd be very afraid to see how much that exhaust system must cost.

All I know is that a true dual exhaust on a Bimmer I6 engine is a feat, however the as long as you have the V8 with dual headers, you should have absolutly no problem fitting a dual exhaust . Just make sure you run an H pipe set up so you get that real throaty race car sound. That stuff is player as hell
