Hi there,

I was thinking of getting an E30 bimmer to work on as a project car. I was thinking of swaping an engine and dropping in the SR20DET or the RB25DET in it. Im guessing a 1987-1990 325is would be best. The M3 swap would run me way more $$$. Anyone done a swap like this before? Can someone point me in the right direction?
Just looking at the opportunities for right now.
I know its JDM into the german beauty but still, I can get the engines for 1500-3500$.
So dont flame me for the idea. Just looking for some help.

Thanks

Definatley possible and definately done before. there are 3 sr20det e30's in my home club here in NZ. There are also kits you can buy.

Do a web search and you will find a few good sites (I don't have bookmarks for them and I'm sure you know how to Google). One is here

Links to my home club cars:

Numero Uno

Numer Two - ladies shoe

Three blind mice

We also have a member with a 1JZE-GTE 2.5L twin turbo. 280 HP - mmmmm.

Good luck - should be a rewarding experience.

I worked on a e30 m3 with an 3.0L m54 (e46 330i motor) on the weekend. It was mildly worked and was running a 5spd manual. Fit in the engine bay pretty well and the car went like stink. I was so impressed I would now consider that option aswell. These motors stand up well to supercharging if you must have FI. Although fitting all the extra for that in the e30 engine bay could be a challenge.
