just wondering what the e30 cv joints are like.

ive heard they break very easily if you start getting extra hp to the wheels.

i own a 1983 318i e30 and am looking at putting a differant engine in it and have been told that the cv joints wont hold up very well in the old 3 series at all.
any one had experiance with anything like this

what are recomended upgrades for these? (if needed)

thanks

I have seemed to have a glitch with mine...around May, I started to hear a click when I took turns, and the CV on the drivers side was shot. Got the half axle replaced w/inner and outer joints. Fast forward to present, and now the click is back, but now only when I apply the brakes in a straight line, and it is pretty infrequent. I haven't confirmed it yet, but I am pretty sure that it is the CV again.

I have an 85 318i that is turbo'd. I bought it at an auction for $250 (not running so well). Researching on the net led me to the person that built it. After some emails w/him he told me that he broke 2 cv's after installing the turbo & that was before the intercooler. The turbo is a small jay ray model.. not sure the psi it is pushing but cant be much. he also rebuilt the motor prior to install w/.050 over pistons & new cam. he said that mostly it was hard launches.
