I'm planning to get an '86 325es tomorrow, and it's got a couple little issues...

passenger side window doesn't work

HVAC fan only works on High

ABS light is on

Common causes for any of these problems? Easy fixes? How expensive is the ABS problem to fix?

Also, what am I getting into if the fuel lines need replaced? (A little rust)

Hey mate,

With reagards to the HVAC fan, the problem is that the first three fan settings are wired in series (i.e. they all run from the same wiring), whereas the highest setting (4) is wired in parallel. So it's probably a wiring problem or a faulty connection.

ABS light on could be a number of things. You may be losing brake pressure due to a leak, for instance. If the light is on though, it means that the system has disabled itself and is no longer working, so bear that in mind.

The other things you mentioned I'm not too sure about. Perhaps some of the others will give you some tips.

The HVAC problem is only a fan resistor pack found near the motor. High actually works because it doesn't have a resitor and is just full power. The other three settings usually go out at the same time. You could probably pull out the resistor pack and spray it with a contact cleaning spray as it has a relay on it as well and is usually the culprit. might make it work another year or so. I just bought a new one when mine died (decently cheap). It is extremely easy to get to through the engine bay.

Not sure about the HVAC but I had a problem with my window. Check the wires at the window operating switch and then check the motor that controls the window in the door.
The ABS can be all kinda stuff. You may be able to check for the code? Not sure how easy it is with a BMW, haven't had to do it yet.
