hello,
i have a gorgeous '95 540i that seems to have the alarm permanently activated. My particular car came with a built in keyless entry built into the key itself. the problem started when i went to program the keyfob itself to the car alarm after i had changed the battery in the key fob. (reprogramming the keyfob to the alarm is normal and i had done it before.) yet somehow i managed to program the keyfob, activate the car alarm, and simultaneously unprogram the keyfob again with the alarm still activated. as soon as i exited the car the alarm went off. i have tried to reprogram the alarm but the car is obvioulsy not taking the code. its kind of a catch 22 i can't reprogram the keyfob until the alarm is deactivated and i can't deactivate the alarm without reprogramming the keyfob. i have found the actual alarm unit, its located under the rear seats and is sandwiched between the moduls that are already back there, and the sheetmetal that supports the seats themselves. It's really tricky to get there and its obvious BMW didn't want would-be theives to be able to access it easily. since the alarm has been activated the engine is of course immobilized and the only way i have found to bypass this is to pull the fuse in the alarm module i just mentioned. which is how i am currently driving the car. yet as soon as i put the fuse back in place the alarm and lights come back on. so currently the fuse is out. with the fuse out the computer display next to the radio which displays the time, date, mpg, fuel left, etc. is out, i guess these two items are directly connected. anyway i have tried everything, the manual doesn't cover this situation as neither does the phone-book sized Bentley Publishers repair guide for the e34 recomment anything, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks
simon
