E34 Turbo Lag

I have this problem, and the best way to describe it is that it feels like turbo lag. The car doesn't have a turbo, so I know it's not that...

At the begining of each gear as I accelerate, there is a lag in power for a moment. I know it's not the throttle switch (at least, I think that's what it's called, the name of it just slipped my mind), because I did a bunch of tests, and it's gravy.

Does anyone else have any experience with this problem or any guesses as to what it might be?

This may not be it but it's worth a try.

BMW had recognised a potential momentary power reduction after a gear change followed by full throttle - due to partial contraction of the air intake boot. A stronger support ring was offered in the US to try to prevent this contraction as it upsets the airflow.

This applies to the M42B18 in the E30 318is so it may not be the cause in your car but you just never know. Other than that, I've not got too much idea what else the problem could be. Good luck.
