I have a 90 525i 5 speed and I recently lost spark to my spark plugs. It possible happened when I was convinced to try a bigger audio system, other than the one I already had installed. An hour later she took 3 trys to start, then cut off like 5-10 mins later. I push started it and I she was idleing high (2000rpms) so I tried to lower her alittle and she shut off a min later. It took me about another 30 mins to get her started again and I gunned it home with no problems. I checked to see if she would start again before I went inside and she did. The next day she didnt start and hasnt since. My battery has kept a charge so I guess its not my alternator or battery. I replaced the ignition coil and that didnt work. I just had the car repaired, all 6 valves where bent, and block was cracked due to a faulty timing belt, so she has new spark plugs and the wires are about a year old. All the fuses are good, but I dont know how to check the any relays. I do have a Haynes Manual but the ignition section is based mostly on 3 series. >>>Do I have a bad distributor, did I burn out my ECU or should I check some other component? I'll try anything and could really use any help I can possible get.

I dont believe I need a bigger battery because as soon as i found out I was having problems I disconnected the system and removed it, and unplugged the fuse at the battery that is in my audio Power Wire (+). Right know there is no extra load on my battery, not even fog lights. I have a full 12-14 volts at the battery. And the car does crank over, but no spark. Thanks Panzershrek

Are you sure it’s the spark? Have you checked the spark with a screwdriver in the plug and placed very close to the block so the spark jumps from the screwdriver to the block (very important)? Make sure the distributor cap and spark plug wires are in good condition. Also you might want to make sure the fuel filter isn’t clogged and the fuel pump is working properly. Just some other ideas.

Yes I have Ghost, I should of wrote that to begin with. The reason I know I have no spark is because I tried that method with "a screwdriver to the block". I found out I had no spark and my uncle suggested I tried to replace the ignition coil so I did and still have no spark, I tried the method again after I installed the new ignition coil. Still no spark. I havent looked at any fuel components yet, and Im real close to replacing the distributor cap and rotor since they are inexpensive compared to other parts. Then Im probably gonna do the spark plug wires. But I think Im gonna hold on a few more days before I start replacing stuff again. You guys are a big help,Thanks
