(E39) 99 540 muffler

I been scratching my head all day long because i can't find what i'm looking for. Maybe someone can help me.

What's the best size for performance on a muffler.

could i go 3" to dual 2.5" muffler tip
could i go 2.5" to dual 3" muffler tip
could i go 3" to dual 3" muffler tip

or what would you suggest for best performance?

stay at 2.5" - if u go too large of a tubing and you are not pushing that much air in
the air starts to wander and won't exit as fast as if it were in a smaller tubing. that being said, most turbo (large turbo) cars have 3" piping from the cat back...

you need only 2.5" and the tips are just a personal choice...i'd go w/ dual 2.5" i think...don't want them to overwhelm the rear of the car =]
