E39 Xenon Headlamp

This may be a stupid question, but how do you remove the bulb from these cars? I'm pretty handy with auto repair, but this is my baby and don't want to mess anything up. Plus, it's usually dark outside by the time I get a chance to work on it. It may not even be the bulb, but want to swap either side to be sure.

Same thing applies to the driver's outter door handle. It snapped off on me the other day (wasn't even cold outside) Many posts say it's difficult to get to from inside the panel.

I have replaced the headlamp bulb - pretty easy. On my way to remove the driver's outter door handle and am under the impression I'll need a couple "special tools". I know that I need to get into it from the door jamb and don't actually need to remove the door panel (that's a plus), but unsure what to do with the special tools or if they can be purchased anywhere. thank you.
