The 0-60 times recently released on Autoweek (7.3) are disappointing.

Rather than hold out for the new upgraded 530 engine, I'm considering teh A6 2.7t. Yeah, sure, it's turbo, but supposedly reliable. The quattro should give good handling, but I'm still suspicious. Soon I'll test one, but would like to hear from anybody who has experience with this car.

I'm not getting any younger & REALLY want a nice performance luxury sedan SOON.

What to do?

Based on the weight, I guess the 0-60 performance isn't that bad. Remember the 530i is still an economical car for the 5-Series. When I was shopping for my A4, I did get the opportunity to drive the A6 2.7tq and was impress by its performance. I did experience some turbo lag, but it sure made up for it in the higher RPMs.

Are you looking for something you can mod down the line or a daily luxo car? Remember that 2.7t is the same engine found in the previous S4, so there are plenty of performance parts. The new 5-Series overall seems more luxurious.

I want a combination of performance & luxury (Getting old lends me to lean a bit more towards the luxo' end of the scale).

Mods aren't important to me; I want a good performer out of the box. A 0-60 of 6.5-6.8 will do just fine with an automatic.

The SMG on the BMW looked GREAT on a recent test drive in a Z4. Sure wish Audi had it on something less exotic than their GTP car.

Jimmy, 0-60 around 6.8 - 7 seconds is definitely attainable with some minor bolt-ons. If mods aren't important then go for the 5-Series. Aside from the looks, you will definately enjoy the interior styling and build quality of the BMW.

That is true, the new interior of the 5's are very nice, I think bmw is catching up with Audi in interior designs.

Very true about the new 5's. However, the European's get some interior colors & combinations that we won't get that are REALLY nice.

Check out the German BMW website & build a 530 there (Bone up on your Deutch, first).

can't you alway add the colors you want by doing the MY BMW route (or some thins called like that...) I thought BMW had a custom interior / exterior schemes you could mix and match ANYthing you wanted

Certain interior colors are generally unavailable with certain exterior colors.

The European versions have colors tht aren't available to us at all.

Oddly, I find myself gravitating to White exterior with the auburn interior.

i love the cinamon leather in the m3...brown leather just plain looks rich! =] and luxo too...

id shy away from teh audi only b/c i know their clutch is terribly expensve and if u had automatic and turbo u'd pull your hair out....very silly combination.

quattro wont make it handle better it'll help it to accelerate a little faster...

Quattro does make Audi's vehicles handle better. The Audi Quattro system actually adds a lot of weight to the car and robs engine power, so it's a bit slower than a RWD car, but that Quattro really helps in the handling. When going through the turns, you have all 4 wheels grabbing the road for grip...that's what Quattro is all about: grip.
But if I were you, I would get the BMW 530i or 545i. I know the A6 2.7T is real quick, but the body style is just old now and I like the new 530i inside and out better than the A6 2.7T. If you do decide to go with the A6 2.7T, don't worry about getting it with automatic, Audi makes the twin turbos and auto transmission work very well together...the power builds up very quickly and at low rpm's. When it comes to turbocharged cars, VW/Audi is the best.

actually the AWD is very forgiving and can make you feel like a better driver than you actually are...

AWD will help you to its limits... once that limit is reached... they are VERY UNFORGIVING!
