Which do you prefer? Or maybe a 2000 M5, 04 M3 or S4 as these cars seem to be in the same general price range. This car is going to be my dads, but I expect to see quite a bit of driving time myself. He has a 6 speed manual 545 on order which won't be available until January. With options, came to around 54,000 (sport package, xenon, premium sound?). That seems to be a decent price as I've been looking online and the stick appears to retail for 51,000. I haven't seen the e60 in person, but the pictures are growing on me. The front end I could care less for at first, but I guess it was just a bad picture. I figure since I disliked the 745 at first, but am now in love with it, the new 5 will grow on me as well.

For driving, the E60. For comfort & a pleasing interior, the MB hs the lead by miles.

If you REALLY want luxury, not pure performance, pay serious attention to the interior of the BMW. Personally, I found it quite unpleasing in appearance as compared to the MB. Also, the I-drive demands WAY too much attention for simple tasks, & can cause SERIOUS problems while driving. If set up while at rest, the I-drive is OK, and most functions needed can be accessed on teh wheel. Also, when the Nav system comes out it will have voice control to help reduce the distractions.
