electric seats

Just bought an old 1985 535i with elect. seats that don't work.
I've checked all fuses but have no idea where to start. "HELP"
I've also been unable to put a fuse in the num. 4 slot of the fuse box as it appears to be hot all the time. Would appreciate any help... [bmwdance]

i moved your thread to this forum as you might expect the experts here. hope you don´t mind?

to your problem. i don´t know whether this fuse #4 is the one for the seats. it couls be as it always seems to go bad and the seats don´t work. that leads me to thaught that the seats have a short somewhere. but how this is to be fixed i do not know, sorry...

Unplug both seat connectors and see if you have 12 vdc at the large (probably red) wires to each seat. If you have power then the problem is probably in the seat control wiring or switching. I just took my seats apart and repaired the control switch for 5 bucks and repaired the drive cables. If you don't have power with the seat connectors unplugged try reinstalling the fuse and then checking for power.
