Hello All,
I hope someone can help me. A friend of mine wants to buy a used 02-03 M3. He asked me about the problems that M3's had with the engines. I remember seeing on the web somewhere that if you had a VIN, you could type it in and find out when the engine was built. I also understand that the only engines that had problems were built during a certain time. Can anyone help point me in the right direction to get this information? BTW I own a 2003 M3 SMG II and have never even had a glimps of a problem. I absolutely love the car. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The specific Service Information Bulletin (SIB) regarding the engine problem has a list of the M3's affected by the problem (by VIN). Your friend can look at the SIB and see if the car he wants to buy is one of them. The SIB can be downloaded from here. It is SI B11 02 03.
