My mileage is 9000, and my engine check message is saying that the oil is low and it needs to be filled up one quart. I heard that this was a bug. Am i supposed to get an oil change, fill it up one quart or take it to service to get the message checked out? Thanks for any help.

lol, you obviously dont know much about the E90. no offense :) there is no dipstick! its electronically controlled. there were people on this forums that have overfilled when they had enough oil in there already. i dont wanna run into the same problem.

My Dealer has said in the first 5000 to 10000 miles I would have to had oil. He said later this should not be a problem with oil burn. I have 2500 miles on mine now but the oil is still full. Yes I have heard that some E90's have had problems with there electric oil measurer. I suggest you add the oil. You can automaticly assume you have the same problems as a very small handfull of others.

Try adding 1/4 to 1/3 of a quart of oil. I know that the E46 is a different animal, but with mine, the add oil indicator comes on when the dip stick measures only about 1/4 down from the full mark. If the E90 measures oil similarly adding a small amount of oil should do the trick, if it doesn't, you haven't added very much oil and the chance of being overfilled is very minimal.

I've added about a 1/4 of a quart once to my E46 to keep the low oil indicator from coming at about 4000 miles (the dipstick measured about 1/4 down from the full mark). The indicator started coming on again just before the 7500 mile oil change, again about 1/4 down from the full mark. (or 3/4 up from the lower mark, depending upon how you look at it.)

Let us know how it goes,
Russ

What are you guys talking about!? The guy has a new car. Why in the world would he need to add oil at 9k? Unless partyman is right, the general idea is, if your car ain't burnin oil(which new cars don't) and you don't have an oil leak, there is no need to do anything to your oil except changing it at the recommended interval. Obviosly something is up with the sensor. Why bother playing around with adding oil or being careful not to overfill.. Take the thing to the dealer!

Why would you be breaking free? [confused]
Because in 20 years of owning my own cars, I have never had anyone else do any work on them.

I must break free from that kind of thinking. I simply don't have the equipment to perform all the maintenance on my 325i.
