Hey everyone!

Does anyone know if the Start/Stop Button is standard in the 2006 5 Series (as it is in the E90)?

I was looking at the brochure again, and it is listed as standard equipment, but when I test drove the 530i and 530ixiT, I had to use a tradt'l. key to start the car.

The brochure shows the Comfort Access Feature Option having the key fob (like the E90 and 7 Series, and the Start/Stop button. Yet, the brochure then says the Start/Stop button is Standard....but I don't see it in the pictures or on the BMW website.

Anyone know? Toying with adding a 530i to the fleet [burnout] .

Adam if it does not have a push button start are you not going to get one? (Hehe-JK!) I have no idea, does it say on the BMW website?
For sure it's a deal breaker Dan [rofl]

I just actually like that feature, and have gotten used to it in the Alpina. I find it kind of frustrating that the brochure has it listed as Standard Equipment, yet it seems to be in no cars that I have seen or driven. Odd.

It is my goal Gabe, to just hog all the BMWS here in CA :)

Thnx Ardi for the response too. So, was it even offered when you ordered your 06 5er? Does your sales brochure list it as Std. Equipment also?

As far as I remember it was not an option, but I will double check tonight when I get back home and let you know. But I can tell you that I have been enjoying this car very much so far, far better than my e39 which I still own for last 7 years.
It has an awesom ride - a lot of nice features, i.e. blue tooth and voice commands are standard. The only thing that is bothering me is my FM radio quality. I hear a lot of static and it seems to be getting worst as I listen to it more!!

Unfortunately, my service rep is telling me that this is a common problem and they can not do any thing about it, I don't trsut them - for now i got the SAT radio, but I am sure my patient will be running out.

I understand Adam, I like the push button starts as well even though I do not own one! The last thing I had with a push button start was a dune buggy sand rail when I lived in Mission Viejo.

deutsch100,

Sure enough the $1000 option was there, but I did not pay any attention to it at the time, it's a cool one to have ...

It looks like the option includes the new key sets, like E90, but you can only use the start botton to start the engine when depressing the brake pedal, unlike what I have seen with Lexus/Toyota that you can start the car remotely.

Lexus/Toyota has copied BMW's feature just so you know, and naturally when one copies (at least a reputable company like Toyota) they differentiate if not improve the feature altogether. In this case it seems as if they copied and decided to differentiate. Seems like BMW had safety in mind when designing the feature, imagine an electronic glitch or even human error which causes the car to start accidently while putting the key into your pocket...

I'll admit I'm no fan of keys that unlock the car within a certain vicinity from the vehicle or those that start the engine remotely, seems like paying $$$ to provide convenience to car thiefs or what not. Also when the car ages, all these gadgets tend to dwindle in reliability.

Well Honda has had push button start ever since the S2000 first came out. Mercedes has also had their Keyless Go for several years.

You probably drove 2005 models which only have push button Start if you get Comfort Access, but you have a 2006 brochure and there were changes. For 2006, all vehicles get push button start, and the Comfort Access is a $1,000 option. Comfort Access locks and unlocks the car automatically and does not require you to insert the key before pushing the "Start" button. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is how I understood the situation to be.

Adam, are you going to get rid of the M3 if you go with the 530i?

As I underestand, with the comfort entry, the doors get unclock automatically when you pull the door handle while the key is still in your pocket, vs. unlocking it by pushing the unlock button!

And as for 2006 530i model without the comfort entry option, you definitly need the key in the ignition to start the engine - from my every day experience, and I really do not mind that :]

I think he drove the 2006's since the dealer would want to demo the 5 with the new engine, also the 530xiT or any xi 5 series would have to have been 2006. The cars likely did not have the option, 1k seems a lot for auto-locks and a start button...

No way he's getting rid of the M3 that would be insane, he's adding to the fleet...[hihi]

Don't know Emile. In a "perfect world", I would like to have both...but 2 payments, double insurance and parking restraints are big issues. I LOVE my M3 so much, but I tried a friend's car seat, stroller, baby bag, etc... and it is just not easy in a 2 door with a small back seat. Installing and removing the baby seat in the rear seat, one needs to be Criss Angel to contort and strech.

I still have not 100% decieded on the 530i yet....getting rid of the M3 is the biggest problem. Everytime I see it, or drive it...I love it more. If I go with the 530i, I will either trade it in, or maybe some lucky bastard on our board will want to take over my lease...2 years 2 months left (it has about 3000 miles on it, SMG, Comp. Pkg., and every offered option).

Jeez...kids ruin all the fun [}:)]

Just step up to the 550i and it won't hurt leaving your M3 behind nearly as much. Excellent acceleration and torque out of the big V8 engine.
A 550i would be awesome, but they are in very short supply. The two dealers where we buy & service our cars, don't even have one in stock yet. They also told us the lease/finance rates will be poor, and there is 0 negotiation on the price, and in fact they are going to be asking over sticker. I refuse to pay over sticker,,,have done it 2x in the past on Benzes, and never again. Besides from the X5, the 5 Series sedan (525 & 530) have the best rates of any BMW.

Push Button on 530XiT

[thumb] I just picked up our 06 530 wagon 11/19 and it has the push button start.
Standard on all 06's after Sept '06 deliveries..
Earlier 06 models were sent out with key only start.
You still have to insert the plastic piece in the usual key start area then push start button. [driving]
