what ever this thing is called - ive had my eye on it for a while. i think it gives a different look, a little more refined and completes the late model back end.
so here is my install.
I dont know how you go about getting this plastic thing other than the way i got lucky. Looking through ebay, i found an english chap selling late model tail lights. i emailed him if he had the plate and was $30 shipped. That was the harsh part.
Most likely your car has the plastic grommets your plate screws into. Pull the carpet out from in the car and remove them, exposing the bare metal holes.
(left with grommet, right without)
Hold plate up to car and mark the back through the top two holes, for where to drill. ...and go drill. (ignore the holes between the lock and plate lights as they were for euro car mounting which had a clip that holds the bottom on)
Last, nut and bolt the license plate to car through new plate. just that easy. I used a lock washer at the nut to keep from it coming loose and a washer between the new plate and the car so i could torque it down without breaking anything.
I, personally, am not entirely happy with this form of mounting, but this will definetly get the job done. It did accomplish what i was trying to do too.
erm, cheers mate!
ps. if anyone has the technical name for this thing, please share. i feel like an idiot saying "that euro style plate thinggy."
