Im looking at a new exahust too, So far ive come up with a Stromung system. You can get stainless steel ones for about $450. Thats what I would say unless anyone has a better idea.

e30guy,

Ansa mufflers aren't bad, however they're more designed like a stock muffler. You won't really see/hear much of a difference from the stock one. It's pretty much designed to be a replacement. Also..if you're going to spend $300 on an Ansa...PM me...cuz that is just rediculous.

Stomung exhausts are excellent quality and rival the SuperSprint exhausts...with one big difference; in order to get the full benefit from the SuperSprint exhaust, you need to keep the car tuned well. The Stromung is a bit more forgiving. It also comes in at under $500. The SuperSprint mufflers for your car will run you between $600 and $750 if you buy direct. I have both of these mufflers and if you would like further info, PM or email me: info@custom3.com

There are some other good ones out there...B&B Triflow is an excellent muffler...however I'm not sure about the hp/trq gain. It sounds great, but you will pay nearly $800 for it.

Also...see my other post here...there are some more details there:

Hope this helps... [wave]

have you considered a custom setup? that is what i have done on all my cars, and it generally works out alot cheaper than a bolt on system....plus you can play with different mufflers depending on what you want from it.

Ansa Exhaust:

I bought a catback from Bavauto

came with resinator pipe and muffler, It sounds a bit deeper than the stock exhaust, feels better too, remember though Ansa makes OEM replacment and Sport exhaust, make sure (if you get Ansa) ask for the sport, I live in Washington state (the great northwest, known for the rain) No signs of rusting yet, (been 2 years) but the black paint on the muffler and pipe is starting to peel off, strangly the resinator still looks brand new.

Ansa is a good catback for the money [thumb]

e30guy: my exhaust on my 318iS was done just last week....my main perogative was that it flowed well....the cat-back system was 2.25in piping(mild-steel, stainless is a waste unless you want longevity) a resonator, rear muffler and whatever tip i wanted.....it came to A$350 ~ US$220.

and it is really good...im really happy with the sound....its a little quiet, but a WOT it really sings.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to post a follow up on this info. I spoke with Scott @ Stromung on Friday afternoon. The $500 I was quoting for their 325i/is/ix exhaust was for a aluminized cat-back system with dual 76mm tips. They have discontinued this system and have opted to upgrade it to a stainless steel cat-back with dual 76mm tips. The new retail price is $665 vs. the original $495. I still offer it at below retail, so if you have any questions whatsoever please email me at info@custom3.com

I apologize for the mis-information, and I hope that this clears it up.

Hello,

I recently purchased an Ansa Sport Exhaust.
Muffler, center pipes, and hanger kit ran ~$250.
I had trouble at Bavarian and called Ansa direct.
I received great service and was introduced to
a local dealer who had my muffle in stock within
an hour.

I went through the fun of adding a few additional
coats of hi temp paint, but I would not recommend
this step. Powder coating may make the exhaust
last longer, but I just expect to get 3 years out of it.
Have no disillusions this is steel, so it will rust...

The Ansa has worked out well, with just a little throatiness
around 2000 RPMs. Actually at WOT there is less cabin
noise, but that could just be the fixed exhuast leak I
had grown accustomed to. [:)]

I would highly recommend this exhaust to anyone
with limited $$$ and desiring to keep a stock like sound.
