I think my fuel pump is going out. When I just barely hit the gass i can hear a sqeualing noise from the back of my car, seems to be by the back right wheel. Would this be my pump? How easy are they to replace.

Today my car died whenever I idled. Does anyone know what might have caused this. I was thinking a fuel or air filter. Please post any other ideas
Did the car backfire? How new are your plugs and wires? Although it wouldn't hurt to replace the both filters, I would check those first.

Starting is hard to do but it always does, i don't know about the power loss because its been like that since I got my car a few months ago. Also when its really cold out and I start my car, push the clutch in, then put it in reverse it grinds for a seconds then pops in. Is my clutch going out? It only does it when its really cold out.

The grinding problem almosts sounds like there is a problem inside the transmission. My second e30 had that problem. It always went away after the car warmed up. You may want to have the tranny checked out, but you may also want to make sure that you have enough gear oil. I had a thorough tune up done and found that there was almost no oil/grease in the tranny and drivetrain. I very rarely ever heard the grinding after I had everything filled up.

i think the transfer pump is in front of the left rear. then theres another one inside the tank. on my car theyre both really easy to replace (back seat pops right out and theres a little plastic panel on the passenger side) my car is dead right now and i think its one of the pumps or the filter, but im not sure. btw, where is the filter located? is it hard to get at?
thanks.

My car does this except that it is second, not reverse. I talked to a mecanic who said he would have to rebuild or replace the transmission=$$$.[:(]

Fuel filter is in front of the left rear wheel, air filter is a plastic box behind the left headlights. If you have a Bentley manual there are photos of both.
