while leaving my neighborhood this morning, I hit a speed bump, not too hard...I was going less than 20mph. I heard a ding, and then my outside temp display started flashing. it showed 5F, -10F, 13F, 0F, ..., and jumped around before settling down to the correct temp (70F). a little later in my drive to work, it did it again after hitting a small bump in the road. what's going on?

PROBABLY your temp sensor wiring is loose. You should take a look at it and resecure the wiring. Whenever it gets disconnected it will read -40C as lowest temp. When reconnected it takes several minutes to recalibrate and climb to proper temp. 10 minutes maybe. You must have an intermittent disconnection.

I'm not sure where located on your model but usually under the front end close to the ground. Mine is under the wheel well guard on the front side of the right front well. It actually clips in to the molding piece there.

mine is under the front left foglight. unplugged it and it went to -40. plugged it in an it went to +9. unplugged it again, -40, plugged it in and +87, which is about right.

could the sensor itself be bad?

how much should a new one cost me?

I have a similar problem with my '06 530i. I live in Texas and it does get hot. However, on some days it takes forever for my A/C to produce cool air. Some days it is fine. Does anyone else have issues with cool down time?
