Fog Light Broke!

I was driving on I85 in Alabama in the fast lane in the middle of the night last night and out of no where is a truck tire tread. I was hauling and hit it. It took out my fog light and broke some plastic, not sure of the whole damage yet. It held onto the fog light, it was just hanging there and the lense is gone. I think I may be able to repair the brackets and other plastic that is broken, but not sure how to attack the fog lense. Are just the lenses available? Or am I going to have to replace the whole thing? Either way, I think I will duplicate the fix from the passenger side to the drivers side to keep it looking symetrical. Any ideas or part numbers?

TIA,

Ron

The plastic piece that sits behind the fog light and finishes the wheel well is shot and I was wondering if anyone knew what the part number was? There are pieces of it left, but nothing that has the PN...

Anybody?

TIA,
Ron

That sucks. You should probably just replace the entire fog light unit. The wires might be damaged.

Fog Light part numbers

I can't find the part number for the plastic you are talking about -- but I do know what you are talking about. Go talk to your dealer... have the parts guy come outside and look at what you're talking about and tell him you want part numbers.

He will probably be able to print out a list of parts you will need. Atleast -- my parts guy does.

Thank you much! I wasn't sure if my explanation was good enough. As for the parts guy at my local dealer, less then helpful with getting part numbers. For some reason part numbers is a language only spoken amongst dealer employees... I will do some digging or eventually crawl under a 5 series to see.

Thanks for your help!

That's a bummer. My parts guy will come outside to the car any time we need to get specific part numbers. I'm 18... the local pontiac dealer parts dept. wouldn't give the the light of day, but the bmw parts guy was more than helpful. He also invited me to a tech session and stuff.

Anyways, I hope you can fix this stuff. You MIGHT be able to find a part number on the panel itself.

I wish I got that kind of service! As for the PN, it is stamped on the drivers side, so I am assuming it will be on the passenger side. I could take a stab and go with one digit above or below and more then likely that will be my winner. Maybe that is what I will do. I'll let you know tomorrow.

FYI: I got some part numbers from another board and figured I would share in case anyone needs them in the future.

"Called "lower engine compartment cover"

1996-2000 models - the part # is 51 71 8 159 426
2001-2003 models - the part # is 51 71 7 008 690

If you have the M-Tech or M5 bumper, the part # is 51 71 2 694 832"
