Fuel Filter on 86 325es

I can't find my fuel filter on my 325es. Does it hide somewhere? I have a Bentley manuel, but it shows it right by the gas tank and its definity not there. Can someone help me?

Should be mounted to the body right in front of the driver's side rear wheel by the main fuel pump.

it should be covered be a plastic splash shield on the drivers side

On my 325es, it's in the engine compartment near the brake booster, actually just below it.
