Fuel Filter

I have been thinking to replace the fuel filter for my 1988 BMW 320i/ic, but I don't know how does it look like and where. Can anybody tell me where can I find the fuel filter for 1988 BMW 320i/325ic? Your help is greatly appreciated.

It is directly in front of the driver's side rear wheel up under the rear seat - a big metal canister looking thing in the fuel line.

This is not correct. My 1987 325e coupe (November '86 build) has the fuel filter right next to the main fuel pump directly in front of the driver's side rear wheel. Maybe the earlier cars had it in the engine compartment, but my '87 has it in front of the rear wheel. It seems that the model years stated in the provided link are incorrect.
