First guess would be fuel pump as you say. You could check the fuel flow, but sounds as if the pump is dead so may be worth replacing it anyway esp. since it happened so suddenly - it is unlikely to be a dirty fuel line or blocked regulator as that would cause gradual problems.

Could be a blocked inlet caused by a largish object, and the sound you are hearing is the pump trying to suck something solid.

Check that first when you go to pull the pump out.

Take your back seat off and bang on the passenger side metal under the cusion while trying to start the car. See if she fires up. haha I did that for a month until it finally gave up completely and i replaced my pump.

If that doesn't work though take that black panel off and check to see if the pump is getting voltage while the key is in the start position. If it is... find another one at a junk yard. Those puppies are expensive. You can take the motor itself out of the assembly and just solder in a new one too. That saved me some cash.

For me it was pulling out main cable from ignition coil, cleaning it a bit, and would start right up, took me 2 months before I had to get a newl coil lol...

How much for a new fuel pump in the E30 318is? I'm interested now!

Nadroj, how many kilometres/miles has your baby done?
The oddometer broke about 3 or 4 months ago and it had 155xxx miles on it then

Big Daddy, do you think any of the inside the tank style pump will work on my 318iS, its a 91, because i like 109$ better than 219$ [hihi]

Unfortunately you most likely have the expensive fuel pump. The newer e30's have only one main pump (no helper). But all you really need is the motor (pump). You can find one at the junk yard for cheap, even if it has the wrong assembly you can take the pump out and solder it in yours. (The junk yard folks can usually do this for you) they did for me.

My 91 318is did not have a "helper pump", and both pumps I listed are in the tank pumps. I would not use a "used" puel pump. You have to have the manufacturer date as they made a mid model change. Mine was the expensive one, and they come as a one piece unit. It is an easy repair, but check the top of the pump for fitment.
