Gas gauge and blower motor

Hi there,
The problem w/your gas gauge could be the sending unit (read:fuel pump).
I believe the sending unit has a potentiometer connected to the float (to measure how much gas is in the tank), which, over the years gets fouled (like a radio volume switch).
As for the blower, does it blow at all, or does it fluctuate up & down of its own accord?
Just a couple of thoughts,
Tiger

I believe the problem is the gauge itself as he said that the actual fuel light works (which would suggest that the sender is functioning correctly)
Blower could be as simple as a fuse.
The OP has given limited info....

Hi
thanks for the replies, I changed the gas guage but still doesn't work, one of my buddy at work said it might be a bad connection from some where under the seat or the car, as it jumps up and down sometimes.
as for the blower it was working on and off, making lof of noise and it stopped suddenly , checked the fuse and they were ok.
the blower itself is gone, i bought on of Ebay am waiting for delivery.
Thanks for all the help guys

Hi there,
I still think that your problem lies inside the gas tank with the sending unit. The low fuel light that comes on is at the very bottom of the potentiometer, and (hopefully) doesn't get there often (therefore that spot on the potentiometer is not used as much). As the level changes, the float moves an arm up and down along a variable resistor/potentiometer. Over time, this potentiometer wears, and gets "dead" spots on it, so the gas gauge reads the level, and then can't (because of the dead spot). As the gas sloshes around, the float moves up and down, giving a reading, then none, then a reading, then none.
If you're going to remove the seat and check the wires (not a bad idea), it's also not a bad idea to open the fuel tank (passenger side) and look at the sending unit. With the key on, you should/might be able to move the float arm up and down to see if the gauge moves or not.

Hope this helps a little more,
Tiger
