Your computer system will retard your engine timing so as not to knock and/or ping, thereby causing performance loss and over time your car will suffer from carbon build up. It is not worth the $2.00 - $4.00 your going to save.

Your car will only run better on the higher octane if it was designed to run on that octane. In other words putting 93 octane fuel in a car requiring 89 will not help much if at all.

Your cars engine management system has a set of "knock sensors" that it takes readings from. This is an indication of "detonation" within an engine....very very bad stuff. To counteract this, it retards timing. This inhibits performance, plain and simple...the higher the octane, the smaller chance of "detonation", ergo the more spark advance allowed by the engine management system, and the better all-round performance. Try a tank or two of the highest octane you can get. Pay attention to the response and mileage you get...actually its pretty simple stuff..if you see the benefits of it, continue on...have fun..

Thanks,
I've been using 89 octane on and off for some months, but I've noticed a significant amount of hesitation and louder valves....I did have some bozos "clean"the engine recently, but I can't say that it helped a great deal. I also have to replace the Mass air flow meter which I think will help with the hesitation, but I think I'll do a couple of tanks of 93 to see if I notice a difference.

I appreciate the advice.
