Well guys, I drove an M3 for the first time this past weekend. I must say, it was the most amazing car I've driven (well, pretty close with the M5 I drove).

The one I drove was an '02 Certified with around 17k miles on it. They were asking around 44k for it. It had Premium Pack, Cold Weather, SMG, and Premium Sound.

I can't decide, should I get a Certified and save about 15 grand or should I order EXACTLY the car I want?

Of course, I just dont want a car that has had the piss beat out of it (likely with an M3). However, that Certified warranty is really kick ass.

It will more than likely be a car I keep for over 4 years, so warranty is an issue with me.

Also, it will be about a year before I buy, because I am waiting till I turn 25 so I dont get butt reamed on the insurance.

Thoughts from you M3 owners?

ps. I really disliked the SMG...is it something that takes a long time to get accustomed to?

If the car has really low mileage and all the maintenance records can be traced through the dealer, it's a good sign the previous owner took real good care of it.

And you're right, the question you should ask yourself is if the $15k savings is worth your peace of mind. I myself have not had very good luck with used cars and will always buy new.
