Got a few questions about aftermarket...

Very shortly here I'm ordering some Eibach springs and possibley a Conforti chip. I have questions about both. First, I cannot find the chip location, and my manual doesn't say anything. I've been searching the net for the past couple days and haven't come across anything. If someone could just tell me that would be great. Now onto the springs.

I want to lower the car as much as possible without having to drop another 250-300 on correcting the camber angle. The Prokit lowers the car 1.6" in the front, and 1" in the rear. Would I have to get the adjustable mounts with this? The Sportlines lower the car 1.8" in the front, and 1.4" in the rear. I'm afraid if I went with this I would HAVE to adjust the camber. If anyone's had any experience with either of these spring sets, I would appreciate any feedback. Also another issue with the Sportlines is clearance. The oil pan would sit (or would appear to sit) a little too close for my personal comfort.

On a side note, how valuable would it be for me to get the stronger rear shock mounts? My car won't be seeing any track time, but it does get "spirited driving" everytime I go to my girlfriend's house because she lives on a VERY nice road.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Drew [driving2]

Your chip is located behind the glove box in the silver box located there. When you "open her up" make sure, before you touch anything that you de-static yourself by touching some metal. If you have any static shock in you when you pull the stock chip out you could fry your ECU and/or chip.

I had Dinan stage II suspension on mine and the car sat about 1.8 - 2.0 inches lower. I would not go any lower than that as you will have some negative camber issues unless you adjust for it. I had stock shock mounts and my car had seen track time and spirited driving, I never had any mount issues.

Best of luck with her

Thanks a lot man. Although, when I opened up the glove box, I didn't see any silver boxes. Just a big black thing with wires going everywhere. I'll look again and see what I can find.

Yeah, the roof of the glovebox comes out. I took that out, and there is something there, with wires, and a plug. At first I thought it was black, but after looking at it harder it's a silver metal box with a black plastic front screwed on. I guess this is it. It's in there with like hanger type things that clamp down on rails. If you want I'll get a picture. Although I guess that would benefit me more than anyone else. =)

My dad's car is lowered 2.5 inches, and even with the m3 offset bushings, it still has some noticeable camber. I have Eibachs on mine and the camber is fine with the m3 offsets.

Cool, cool. Thanks for the word v-dub. I don't think I'm going to play with the ECU until I've got the chip in hand, anything I should look out for other than static while I'm in there?

v-dub, think you could snap some side pics of your car? You have the Prokit or Sportlines?

And as an update on my car, a plant flew off the back of a truck and nailed the front spoiler right on the driver's side foglight. It didn't break anything, or mess up paint, but it did bend the metal on the front end where that little black lip clips on, and I guess from that bending the fender has a small bend in it now, too. If only it was a company truck or I had gotten his tag number.... [hatchet] [bash]

You found the ECU - congrats! For those of you reading in RHD country like me, the ECU is located just below the headlight switch behind the dash trim - no need to remove the glovebox [thumb]

My e30 is lowered by 2.2" at the rear, and about 1.6" at the front.

Height off the ground at the lowest point of the chassis rails is 4" which gives me a little trouble on speed humps, gravel drives, and steep entrances, but is manageable with care.

Camber is around 2 degrees in front and 3 in back from memory which is visible and I get noticeble inside tyre wear on all four tyres. Have considered correcting the camber, but as I am on standard bottlecap rims, the tyres are relatively cheap, so I'll wait till I get some 17's before I correct it as those tyres are a bit pricey to be wearing out so quickly.

since anyone it's yet to mention it ...
you'll need sports (shorter) shocks when you lower her.
Eibachs Prokit showed lots of negative camber on rear axel of my 87 325iC

you can always tweek height by using pring thiner or thicker spring pads.
