The wife hasn't been thrilled with the '04 330 CI we bought as it wasn't "sporty" enough for her. She liked the Land Shark, which I didn't care much for.

SOOOO..we looked at M3's today and drove one for many miles. We both fell in love with the car, but not the convertible top in the one we were driving.
The dealer had a new M3 that was being detailed (2.5 miles on the clock) and it was Silver Gray metallic (?) color. It has SMG and 19" wheels, and lots of goodies, but no NAV (which we didn't want).

So we traded the 330CI in with 2700 miles and bought the M3. [drinking]

We pick it up tomorrow a.m. I'm having them switch wheels/tires from the Continentals on this car to the other M3's on the lot with Pilot Sports, which I prefer.

All in all, it is exciting for us! [driving2]

Congratu-freak-a-lations !!!!

I did the very same thing, loved my 330Cic, but felt slight remorse in not getting the M3....So, I went out and got the M3....happy ever since !! & done car swapping now for a good while. I love the Silver-Grey, its an easy care color too !!!!

Congrats. Just saw my new 330 replacing my 323 after test driving an 03 M3 cabrio with 4000 miles. I hope I can deal with the regret because my sig other is already having problems with my talk of getting a new 4 series in a couple of year. She would not deal with a 2700 mile trade-in. So, ENJOY IT--you're lucky!!

With the SMG, let's say you're under hard acceleration and the pedal is to the floor. Do you have to let go of the gas pedal when you shift like you would in a manual or can you just hold it and press the buttons?

Congrats on the car, looks amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!! I want one of those things so badly, lol.

Dinan55, I know that if you drive it like a manual (meaning you let go of the accelerator when changing gears) it makes for a much smoother shift.

The Owners Manual plainly states that it is NOT necessary to lift the throttle while changing gears. You can do either, but when you are simply cruising around town, the car (depending on which shift program you have it in) will "delay" the shifting according to the setting (soft/slow vs fast shifting).

If it is hammered (like the demo we drove) with a firm shift program, just hold the pedal down and shift when the light blinks on the tach. No need to let off the go pedal [hihi]
