I have a 1987 325 is with about 190000 miles, it burns about a quart of oil every 400-500 miles.
It won't pass the emissions test because there are too many hydrocarbons in the exhaust, all other pollutants are below the standard. I've been through a couple of times now and I'm running out of ideas.
The last time I changed my spark plugs I noticed that the one from my No. 4 cylinder had some oil build up on it, Bentley says this could be from a bad valve seal or piston ring. I thought this might cause a bad spark so about a mile before I got to the clean air station I changed it with a brand new one, this helped but not enough.
I could take it to a mechanic, but I'd rather do it myself if it's something simple.
I just need to pass for now so I can drive until summer when I have time to put in an M50
Thanks in advance
