Hi - I changed my timing belt on my 1991 325i conv and the now the car won't start. The starter kicks in but the engine won't turn over. Any help on where I went wrong would be helpful. Thanks..

Please describe more clearly. "turn over" can mean different things to different people. Do you mean the engines cranks properly with the starter, but does not run on its own? If so, does it kick at all, backfire, etc?

Or do you mean the starter will not turn the engine at all?

The starter turns the engine over as the belts rotate when I try to start the car. I think the problem is with ignition rotor. I removed the distributor cap and tried to start the car again to check if the car would act different y and it didn't. In other words, the car is acting as if the distributor cap/ignition rotor is not in the car.

Another question: When the crank shaft is set to TDC should the ignition rotor point to distributor cap location for spark plug 1. Right now it's slighlty off. Could this be the problem.

Yes, the rotor should point to the terminal for the #1 cylinder spark plug when the engine is at TDC for cylinder #1. If it is not, then you either put the spark plug wires back onto the wrong terminals on the distributor cap (if you even removed them), or the sprocket on the camshaft was not lined up properly when the belt was installed.
